Exuberant Bieber fan storms stage
Exuberant Bieber fan storms stage Sarah Young / 7 May 2013 Drama continues to follow Justin Bieber’s every dance move in Dubai, as it emerged fake tickets were used to enter a sold-out show. This, coming on top of the on-stage molestation by an exuberant fan at his second show, had not dampened Bieber’s enjoyment of Dubai, organisers have said. Done Events COO Thomas Ovesen said event organisers had been aware prior to the first show at the Sevens Stadium that fake tickets would be used to get in. “With several special “security features” built into the tickets we are comfortable that we managed to spot most fake tickets and we did indeed have guests who were turned away at the gates as they were in possession of falsified tickets “With strict capacity control we will keep up with ticketing technology and security features to enable only guests carrying legit tickets admission at our events.” The company had run into the issue in the past, with fake tickets also being sold for a Jennifer Lopez concert, he said. “For all sold out shows and many other shows in general we see some degree of falsified tickets. For shows in high demand and in particular when the target audience is younger there seem to be more activity in the “fake ticket” department,” he said. Ovesen said Bieber would not be pressing charges against the man who had jumped on stage and grabbed him during the second show. “A young fan desperate to meet his idol did make his way on stage, but was immediately removed and Justin professionally continued with his show. As far as we know no further action has been taken against the youth.” Continue reading
More luxury sports cars to join Dubai Police fleet
More luxury sports cars to join Dubai Police fleet Amira Agarib / 7 May 2013 The Dubai Police’s bespoke luxury sports cars were on display as the emirate played host to one of the Middle East’s leading tourism conferences, with the police revealing more exclusive models are to come. Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, opened the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Monday, where the Dubai Police launched its range of luxury sports police patrol vehicles, including the Dh11-million Aston Martin One-77. Cars from Aston Martin, Bentley and Mercedes have joined the fleet, in addition to the two models of Ferrari which have been launched previously and entered service with police requiring training from professional drivers on how to handle the vehicles. In a Press conference held after the launch of the luxury cars, Dubai Police Deputy Commander-in-Chief Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina revealed that within the coming days, the Dubai Police would launch another two luxury cars to join the fleet, including a Bugatti, renowned for its exclusivity and beauty and owned by German car manufacturer Volkswagen. Al Mazeina said all security patrols belonged to the Dubai government and the cars were allocated to the Dubai Police to patrol tourist and heritage areas. Cars would be stationed near the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai mall, Jumeirah Beach Residence, the Burj Al Arab and in Jumeirah as well as other places frequented by tourists. Since the launch of the Lamborghini and Ferrari FF cars, international car companies were preparing for the launch of the latest product to join Dubai Police fleet. “We are really intending to buy a large number of luxury cars to join the fleet of our specialised police patrols,” Al Mazeina said. Cars would be driven by male and female police officials, trained by professionals, he said. The introduction of cars was to “keep pace” with the advancing civilisation witnessed in the UAE and in particular in Dubai. Dubai was hopeful it would be named the host of Expo 2020, “so one of our top priorities is to introduce things that are in line with the UAE and Dubai’s reputation.” He said that the luxury police patrols are equipped with advanced devices, computers, cameras and specialised number plates and the cars would be under the supervision of the Security Tourist Department of the Dubai police. Director of Media at the Dubai Police Batti Al Falasi said there was a long-term strategic plan to introduce police cars equipped with advanced devices such as cameras which detect thieves, lie-detecting devices. news@khaleejtimes.com Continue reading
DM warns bachelors to move out of residential areas
DM warns bachelors to move out of residential areas Staff Reporter / 7 May 2013 The long arm of the law is still catching up with the bachelors in Dubai who live in residential areas. The Dubai Municipality (DM) on Monday issued a warning to bachelors to move out of areas designated for families, indicating that it will intensify the clampdown on singletons living in residential areas. As per the municipal rules in Dubai, singletons, either unmarried or married and living away from their families, should be living in the residential buildings in the Commercial Business District or residential areas designated for them, such as Hor Al Anz, Al Muteena, Al Quoz 4 and Al Qusais 1 among others. Labourers are allowed to live only in labour accommodations in Sonapur, Al Quoz and Jebel Ali. Fines ranging from Dh1,000 to Dh50, 000 could be imposed on landlords and tenants leasing out apartments in residential areas to bachelors, depending on the size of accommodation and the number of warnings issued. Hundreds of Dubai residents have already been fined and several others have been served with eviction notices by the Buildings Department of the municipality. Those who did not relocate have faced disconnection of power and water supply as well. Shajin Ratheendran from India, who lives in Al Nahda 2, said he was concerned about the municipality’s warning. “I found (my) accommodation close to my office after a lot of hunting. It is not fair to ask a person to move out of his house just because he happens to be a bachelor. If the municipality is concerned about safety issues or nuisance caused by groups of young men, there should be other rules in place to prevent them.” Acting Director of the department Yusuf Abdullah Al Marzouqi said the municipality had been effectively executing the law of categorising areas in the emirate of Dubai in order to evict bachelors from residential areas, and prevent them from sharing family accommodation. This was to preserve the residential environment, social safety and tranquility, he said. The civic body had cracked down in many areas after field visits in several residential areas in Dubai, as many bachelors were found staying in residential areas designated for families. The department had already notified bachelors staying in residential areas allocated to families and given deadlines to tenants and owners to evacuate the places, and disconnected services. Marzouqi, who said it had been noticed some owners were still leasing rooms for bachelors in areas allocated for families, urged the public to cooperate with the civic body. “The municipality will take necessary action in case of receiving any complaint from families regarding the presence of bachelors in these areas,” he said. He also warned families who shared apartments that they were violating the rules and regulations which would adversely affect the social safety and harmony of the country, he said. sajila@khaleejtimes.com Continue reading
